ARPEPE’s “Rosso di Valtellina 2022” is made from the Nebbiolo grape variety (which locals call “Chiavennasca”), grown on granite terraces at an elevation of 700 meters above sea level on the Lombard side of the Alps. This is the winery’s entry-level wine, first released in the challenging year of 2003. It has a lighter and more aromatic flavor compared to Nebbiolo from Piedmont. Aging takes place in large, old barrels; barriques and new barrels are not used. Expect high acidity, firm tannins, and a flavor rich in mineral notes. Recommended drinking window: 2027 through 2042.
