The Debate was born from the unique perspectives and ideas of two friends. These entailed producing wine, but at the same time storytelling and the art of listening. After all, their mission is to bring people together to start good conversations and discussions, while enjoying a good glass of wine.
Together, they selected six different vineyards in Napa Valley, each with its own terroir and character. This is how The Debate tries to emphasize the diversity of people. Artalade, Sacrashe and Denali are the plots where Cabernet Sauvignon grows. Cabernet Franc grows on Sleeping Lady, Beckstofer to Kalon and Stagecoach. The altitude of the vineyards is between 150 and 300 meters.
The focus is on producing single vineyard and single variety wines, i.e. from one single vineyard and grape variety. The Ultimate is the only blend released by the winery. A total of seven different cuvées are produced. The cellar is under the direction of Jean Hoefliger. Jean is the winemaker of The Debate and he strives to produce the best wine possible every year. Because the winery produces single vineyard wines, it is important that the terroir of each vineyard shines through clearly. Every wine is a blank canvas for a new debate, as he calls it.
The bottles all come in a unique package. Each bottle is packaged in a newspaper with the 'debates',
-the topics- of that year. Various topics were discussed in the last vintage, such as the French presidential elections, the Olympic Games and certain pop events. This ensures that a good and interesting conversation gets started while drinking The Debate wines. And because the wines have a long aging potential, this way of packaging is extra fun. Imagine opening this wine twenty years later and reviewing what was current at the time. It will surely bring back memories!
