Soave (Superiore)
The vineyards of Soave are located in the Veneto hills region of northeastern Italy. The area has a mild climate, influenced by the nearby Alps and the Adriatic Sea, with warm days and cool nights. The terroir consists of volcanic and limestone-rich soils.
Soave is primarily made from the Garganega grape (not any relation with Grenache) and is sometimes blended with small amounts of Trebbiano or Chardonnay or other permitted grapes in the DOC. The wine is known for its pale straw color and aromas of white flowers, citrus, and orchard fruits, sometimes with notes of almond and herbs.
Soave wines are refreshing, with a clear acidity and a light to medium body, and a characteristic mineral finish. While most Soave is produced in a easy-drinking style, some wines from the Soave Classico zone (in the historic hillside vineyards) have a greater depth, complexity, and aging potential.
The Soave Superiore (DOCG) wines contain at least 70% Garganega, blended with a maximum of 30% of Pinot bianco, Trebbiano or Chardonnay, The yiled is restricted (10 tonnes/ha), the wines must have a minimum alcohol percentage of 11.5%.
