Fermented with 40% whole clusters and destined to spend approximately 24 months in older barrels, the 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape was still in wood during my June visit to Pegau, where I tasted this sample. Marked by floral hints overlaid on raspberry and strawberry fruit, it's a medium to full-bodied wine, silky and elegant, with a long finish.
The medium ruby-hued 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Tradition checks in as 80% Grenache, 12% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Ample kirsch, candied violets, lavender, and peppery garrigue jump from this medium-bodied, supple, more pleasure-bent 2021, which has good ripeness, the more focused, elegant style of the vintage, and a good finish.
