Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron

Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron is a wine producer, situated in the small village of Premeaux, near Nuits-Saint Georges in the Côte d’Or region in Burgundy. They are specialized in making red wines from Pinot Noir grapes, although they also grow Chardonnay and Aligoté vines to produce small quantities of white wine.

The domaine was founded in 1926, when Jean Confuron married Anne-Marie Bouchard. Their families owned vineyards throughout the Côte d’Or and these vineyards have been passed through the family since. Further acquisitions of various plots expanded the domaine. Their sons, Jean-Jacques and Cristian worked together at the family domaine until 1980, when the domaine was split between them.

Unfortunately, Jean-Jacques became very ill and in 1988, his daughter Sophie, together with her husband Alain Meunier (They met each other at the “Lycée Viticole” in Beaune) took over the domaine. Nowadays, Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron has 8.5 Ha under vines across 13 different appellations, including plots in the Grands Crus Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Clos de Vougeot. Other important possessions are parcels in Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru “Aux Boudots” and “Les Chaboeufs”, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru “Les Beaux Monts and Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru from various plots within the appellation.

The vinification is quite traditional and the various wines receive some ageing in French oak barrels. For the Grands Crus 80 – 100% are new barrels and for the other appellations up to 50%. The red wines are fined with egg white but are bottled unfiltered.

The best recent vintages for the top wines are: 2002, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2015. These wines are characterized by their suave tannins and floral and delicate flavors.
