This famous and family-owned négociant and wine growing business has its headquarters in both Beaune and Aloxe-Corton in the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy and is currently run by Louis-Fabrice Latour. Although the Louis Latour family (they were also experienced in cooperage), bought their first vines in the Côte de Beaune already in 1731, the creation of Maison Louis Latour occured only in 1797.
In 1815, the first wines were exported to Great Britain and during the 19th and beginning of the 20th century Maison Louis Latour was rapidly expanding and they were supplying various royal families throughout Europe.
They own almost 50 Ha of vineyards, including the largest Grand Cru property in the Côte d’Or (27 Ha). 33 Ha of vineyards are situated in Aloxe-Corton, where also the winery Château Corton Grancey (built in 1749, with the cuverie built from 1830 - 1834) is based. 10,5 Ha of vineyards are situated in the Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne, but other important Grand Cru plots are in Le Montrachet Grand Cru, Romanée-Saint Vivant Grand Cru, Chambertin Grand Cru and Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru “Les Demoiselles”.
All the wines produced are based on climate and terroir with respect to nature and tradition. The red wines are decribed as refined, elegant and distinguished and the white wines are structured, rich and well balanced. Especially the Grands Crus and Premiers Crus have a fabulous capacity for ageing. Maison Louis Latour also produces wines from the Ardèche (Viognier and Chardonnay) and Var region (Pinot Noir) at a competitive price.
