The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru is showing a little more oak than other cuvées, though it marries well with the fruit, touches of menthol percolating through with time, quite lively and precocious. The palate is well-balanced and quite intense on the entry, with orange rind and subtle peachy notes. It builds nicely in the glass and fans out with a sense of brio on the finish. This will be difficult to resist when young.
The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Garenne (Maison Louis Jadot) exhibits aromas of pear, wheat toast, freshly baked bread and hazelnuts, followed by a medium-bodied, satiny and vibrant palate that's bright, precise and linear.
A cooler and much more restrained nose features notes of citrus, a range of floral elements and exotic hints of anise and clove. Once again the mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is rich to the point of opulence with reasonably good vibrancy that carries over to the refreshingly dry and, like the Abbaye de Morgeot, borderline tannic finish. This could use more depth so again, at least some patience should prove to be beneficial.
