The 2022 Meursault Village blends from the lower part of the appellation, mainly from Clos-de-la-Baronne. This has a perfumed bouquet with dried yellow flowers and touches of peach skin, fragrant and well-defined. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Just a hint of white pepper towards the finish that skips along in carefree fashion. This will be approachable young, but it has the substance to age.
Moderate reduction is enough to dominate the underlying fruit today. More interesting are the succulent but racy middle weight flavors that possess fine mid-palate volume and fine punch that carries over to the nicely dry, balanced and firm finale. This is clearly intended to reward mid-term keeping and at least some cellaring will be necessary.
The blend is made up from Clos de la Baronne, Crotots, Gruyaches and Sous la Velle, all on the lower slopes. Very pale in colour, and quite light in bouquet, restrained in any case, then a swelling weight of fruit, much more typical Meursault, before the recent sulphuring dries the finish, temporarily. Some pear and peach notes so the favours were fully ripe even if the sugars stayed reasonably modest. Drink from 2027-2032. Tasted Oct 2023.
