Robert Parker (91)

Offering up aromas of pear, pastry cream, white flowers and blanched hazelnuts, the 2018 Meursault Vireuils is medium to full-bodied, chiseled and elegant, with good depth and tangy underlying acids. In Roulot's cellar, the tour of Meursault's hillside lieux-dits begins with Vireuils, a high-altitude site that is both the most easterly exposed and the most marked by the influence of cool winds from the valley of Auxey-Duresses, meaning that it's always the leanest, least textural wine of the series.

Picked 5 September. Mid slope thus cooler than the sites that supply the straight Meursault. The last parcels to be harvested. 8–10% new oak. Tank sample.
Smoky, mealy nose from poor chalky soil. A touch of struck match but under that there’s ripe, cedary citrus. Powerful, mouth-watering, cedary. Power and freshness. Quite a grip to the texture – in a good way.

Fine pale lemon and lime. This is leaner and tighter than the blend, perhaps more intense too with a very light reduction at the back. Still biding its time.
