Domaine A-F. Gros is a prestigious estate founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros and her husband François Parent. The estate mainly produces red wines from Pinot Noir grapes at various levels, including Premier and Grand Crus. Although the estate is based in Pommard, they also own vineyards in Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Beaune, and Savigny-les-Beaune.
Domaine A-F. Gros is one of the three wineries that were established when Jean Gros and his wife decided to divide the vineyards of Domaine Jean Gros among their children. These children are Michel (Domaine Michel Gros), Bernard (Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur), and Anne-Françoise. Additionally, the well-known Domaine Anne Gros is owned by their niece.
François Parent's share in his family’s estate (Domaine Parent) was added to Domaine A-F. Gros after their marriage. François also produced wines under his own label, recognizable by a black truffle on the label.
Although the estate is based in Pommard, the various wines are produced in the center of Beaune. Initially, they were made by François, but now their son Mathias is responsible for the vineyards and winemaking. Daughter Caroline is in charge of the estate’s development and marketing and also releases wines under her own label: Caroline Parent.
Mathias is part of the new generation of winemakers, working as organically as possible with minimal intervention. The wines of Domaine A-F. Gros are produced using a method of short, cold maceration. Additionally, Mathias uses fewer new oak barrels and increasingly employs “whole bunch” fermentation. The wines of Anne-Françoise Gros all feature a beautiful female head on the label, symbolizing the terroir of the vineyard. Dark red fruits and the reflection of individual terroirs characterize the style of the wines.
The main vineyards owned by the estate are: Richebourg Grand Cru (0.60 hectares), Echézeaux Grand Cru (0.29 hectares), Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, Chambolle-Musigny, and Vosne-Romanée "Aux Réas" (1.63 hectares).
If you find yourself near Pommard, a visit to Jefferson’s Club is highly recommended. It’s a charming wine bar with a beautiful terrace, owned by the Gros family and located next to their headquarters. Here, you can enjoy all their wines by the glass. It’s advisable to check the opening hours before visiting.
