Wines from Domaine Weinbach

Domaine Weinbach

Domaine Weinbach, located in the town of Kaysersberg in Alsace, has a heritage that traces its roots to a Capuchin monastery. For over a millennium, these hallowed soils have been dedicated to the cultivation of vines. The Domaine's history includes the construction of the Weinbach "wine stream" in 1612 by Capuchin monks, nestled at the foot of the majestic Schlossberg hill. Following its sale as national property during the French Revolution, the estate found its way into the hands of the Faller brothers in 1898, eventually passing to their son and nephew, Théo. A prominent figure in the Alsatian vineyard, Théo Faller tirelessly advocated for Alsace wines' quality and recognition of their unique terroirs and grape varieties. From 1979 onwards, Théo's wife Colette and their daughters Catherine and Laurence continued the legacy with the same passion for fine Alsace wines and unwavering commitment to quality. Today, Catherine Faller manages the estate alongside her sons, Eddy and Théo.

Domaine Weinbach's terroirs are rich and diverse, featuring exceptional geological characteristics, topological advantages, and a favourable microclimate. Each terroir imparts its distinct character to the estate's wines, forming unique affinities with different grape varieties. Alsace is renowned for these grape varieties and include Riesling, Silvaner, white Burgundy grapes, Muscat, and Gewürztraminer taking centre stage. Additionally, the estate's two sons have begun exploring the world of Pinot Noir. The vineyards at Domaine Weinbach are equally diverse, with varying rock formations and slopes perfectly suited to each grape variety and style.

Vine cultivation at Domaine Weinbach revolves around the careful stewardship of terroir and nature, producing the highest-quality grapes, essential for crafting exceptional wines. Key elements of their viticulture include strict yield control, soil work to enhance terroir life and vine rooting, and a commitment to organic methods since 1990, avoiding synthetic herbicides, fertilizers, and chemicals. Biodynamic practices have been embraced since 1998, extending to all vineyards since 2005. This approach respects the environment, fosters soil life, and balances nature, allowing the true expression of terroir and enhancing Flavors.

The Domaine Weinbach Riesling "Schlossberg Grand Cru" is born from the revered Schlossberg Grand Cru vineyard in Alsace. This exquisite Riesling is a testament to the elegance and pristine character of this noble grape. Within its single-vineyard origin, the Schlossberg Riesling reveals a harmonious blend of citrus, green apple, and intricate mineral nuances. Notably, it possesses the remarkable capacity for graceful aging.
