Over the past 10 years, Taiwanese Kavalan has become a significant name in the world of whiskies. The distillery, opened in 2005, and with 1.2 million annual visitors, is also one of the most visited distilleries in the world. It is named after the area around Yilan, known in ancient times as Kavalan, with the Kavalan clan residing there. Thanks to the clear, creamy water from the surrounding mountains' springs, Kavalan has managed to create exceptionally smooth, soft, and creamy whiskies.
In 2015, the jury of the renowned 'World Whiskies Awards' shocked the whisky world when they awarded the title of the best single malt in the world to Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique. A single malt from Taiwan, a country not known for its whiskies, being crowned the best in the world naturally drew public attention. The Kavalan 7YO Single Cask Vinho Barrique, naturally aged in a Vinho Barrique, delivers impeccable aromatic tones that are revealed during tasting, undoubtedly following in the footsteps of its predecessor.
