BOW (88)

The first single malt whisky from the new Japanese distillery Kanosuke.
Kanosuke was founded in 2017 by Komasa Jozo, a major shochu producer
in the Kagoshima Prefecture. After releasing spirit releases in the
progress report series, it was released in 2021. Made from whisky that was distilled in 2017 and 2018.

This whisky is distilled from unpeated malt and matured in a blend of several cask, such as:
Re-charred American white oak casks and ex-Mellowed Kozuru (Mellowed shochu casks matured at medium age) and one cask was matured in a shochu cask, developed by the company in the late 50s and is currently one of theirflagship products.

shochu is a typical Japanese spirit distilled from:
Rice (kome)
Barley (mugi)
Sweet potatoes (satsuma-imo),
Buckwheat (soba) or brown sugar (kokutō
Whilst in some cases even chestnuts are used.

Tasting Note: Several early reports of this whiskey paint it as a smooth and
fruity whiskey, expect orchard fruit, sweet oak and back-end spice.
Volume: 700 ml, Bottled at "cask strength" 58% and non-chill filtered.
