The 1946 Rivesaltes contains probably 60% to 70% black Grenache and its color in the glass is neither red nor white – more limpid amber. It has a distinctive nose, like an old fortified Barsac! It is very elegant, perhaps even understated, with marmalade, dried quince, yuzu and eau-de-vie. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. It loses a little structure in the middle but retains fine focus and has a delicate touch of Szechuan pepper on the finish. Tasted December 2012.
