Domaine Tortochot • Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru cuvee Renaissence - 2019

Pretty and attractively layered aromas feature notes of both red and dark berries, anise, violet and a whiff of wood. There is very good intensity and vibrancy to the well-defined flavors that also possess a beguiling texture, all wrapped in a saline suffused finale. (90)

Domaine Forey Pere & Fils • Nuits St. Georges Perrieres - 2018

Somewhat surprisingly, this is aromatically similar to the Morey "1er" though with the addition of more wood influence and in particular vanilla. The middle weight flavors are not particularly dense (though neither are they dilute) but they are refined thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins shaping the balanced, delicious and lingering finale. This isn't classic but it's attractive in its fashion and a wine that should drink well on the earlier side if desired. (92)
