The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Clos du Roy, which is neither fined nor filtered, has a concentrated bouquet with scents of citrus fruit, baked bread and light orange blossom. A vanilla hint hides in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a rounded texture. It's honeyed in style yet the acidity keeps this in check, fine length with a sustained finish. It has good potential, though the Les Plessys has just a little more
This plot is towards the bottom of Clos Reissier, and has had to change its name as the upper parts have been classified as 1er Cru. Planted 1936. Most clay in the soil. All barrel to match that. The wine has not been sulphured yet, which explains the slight oxidative note on the nose, which soon blows off, a little bit of brioche. Fine clean white apple fruit on the palate, an elegant and very persistent fruit, evidently Chaintré without the depth and sucrosity of Fuissé.
