The 2020 Clos Ste Hune Riesling opens with a clear and intense, clove-spicy, herbal and delicate nose of ripe and concentrated yet juicy Riesling berries. Juicy yet concentrated, this is a powerful, enormously dense, tight and persistently saline, monstrous Riesling from Hunawihr's most prestigious vineyard that is located in the Rosacker yet never marketed as grand cru. The 2020 should improve with further bottle age during the years prior to its release. This has 13.8% stated alcohol and 3.4 grams per liter of unfermented sugar. Tasted at the domaine in May 2022.

As incredibly dense as it is precise and focused, this has enormous purity and originality. Utterly its own master or mistress, it stares you straight in the eye, like no other great dry white wine in the world does. The finish is off the scale, dazzling, thought-provoking, and inspiring. And, yes, it also has wonderful fruit, very animating acidity, subtle minerality and lots more! Drink from release in 2024.

The 2020 Riesling Clos Sainte Hune is from a 1.6-hectare parcel within the Rosacker Grand Cru. The nose is still smoky, earthy and gives hints of Mirabelle skin. The palate has an immediate smoothness, a lovely note of both fresh and baked Mirabelle, bringing out the stone fruit charm that, for now, plays above the essential stoniness and concentration. The fruity charm belies the essential and cool depth of the site, the profound stoniness and the beautiful, supremely balanced texture. The finish is salty, concentrated and zesty.
