Lingua Franca has released its 2016 “Sisters Chardonnay,” made from grapes harvested in the Willamette Valley, where the harvest began earlier than usual due to the warm climate. The Eola-Amity Hills vineyards retained their distinctive character thanks to the cool Pacific winds blowing through the Van Duzer Corridor, which allowed the grapes to develop rich flavors while maintaining balanced acidity. Winemaker Thomas Savre, following the advice of Dominique Lafon, crafted the wine using whole-cluster pressing and French oak barrels. The result is a wine that is more full-bodied than in cooler vintages, yet possesses a robust structure. Recommended for drinking between 2025 and 2037.
Very heavy bottle: 1,606 g when full. Called after Larry Stone MS's Romanian mother and aunt. Only 150 cases made.
Fruity evolution on the nose – not the savoury notes of white burgundy initially but these emerged on the palate. Excellent acidity and grip. Crystal clear with mix of grapefruit and aniseed notes. Confident and still youthful.
