Staggeringly deep and complex nose that ranges from sour cherry to candied orange peel via a slew of wild herbs and a touch of cocoa powder. Enormously concentrated and structured, yet with a wonderful lightness of touch. Then comes the very powerful, multifaceted finish that sweeps you away. Drink or hold.
The 2020 Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes de 1903 comes from vines located in the lieu-dit of Les Michelons, and after semi-carbonic maceration it sees 10 months in wooden casks. It has a Pinot-like bouquet of red currant and wild strawberry fruit, showing just a little volatility, though at a discreet level. The palate is medium-bodied and well defined, with fleshy ripe red fruit, fine acidity and a tensile, persistent finish. This is a fine Moulin-à-Vent courtesy of those centurions.
