The 2025 growing season in Bandol was, as usual, blessed by the Mediterranean sun, but the heat was tempered by the sea breeze and the mistral blowing through the Peyraud family's terraced vineyards, located near Le Plan-du-Castellet. For Bandol Blanc, this combination is more significant than for red wines and plays a key role in preserving the wine’s freshness. The 2025 vintage vividly demonstrates this freshness, thanks in large part to the sandy-marl soils, as well as a new east-facing plot added in 2016.

About Domaine Tempier

It’s hard to imagine Bandol without “Domaine Tempier.” The Peyraud family winery has made a significant contribution to the development of this appellation and continues to this day to shape the expectations people have for Mourvèdre wines produced in this region on the Mediterranean coast. Red wines, rosés, which are so highly prized by collectors, and the white wines that have emerged in recent years are all made from grapes grown in terraced vineyards with clay-limestone soils, located right by the sea, not far from Le Plan-du-Castellet.

Terroir & Climate

The “Bandol Blanc” comes from vines on sandy marl soils from the Santonian period, which are approximately 75–90 million years old. It is precisely these geological features that play an important role: the sandy marl ensures good drainage and prevents the white wine from becoming too heavy, even in Bandol’s hot climate. In addition, the 18-hectare plot, situated at an elevation of 300 meters and facing east and southeast, acquired by the family in 2016, is cool and well-lit, yet does not overheat, which gives the wine the necessary freshness. The afternoon sea breeze and the mistral help dry the vines, reducing the risk of disease.

Winemaking

Daniel Ravier's approach to winemaking is deliberately focused on “non-intervention.” Both excessive extraction and the bold aromas of new oak barrels are avoided. The main goal is to highlight the characteristics of the sandy-marl soil, so winemaking is conducted with restraint, remaining in the background. Work in the vineyards is carried out according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture under the guidance of Jean-Philippe Fourné and his team. This is the philosophy behind the entire estate: the wine should reflect not the taste of the technological processes applied to it, but the authentic flavor of its place of origin.
