The 2022 Les Bruyères Chardonnay comes from 1.5 hectares of vines on Trias clay soils and was cropped from quite a warm year. It feels closed and tight. It's more and more evident that warm vintages need more time, and this is one of the few wines that still shows a little oaky. It was bottled in November 2024, after two years in barrel.
I tasted three different barrel samples from the 2022 Chardonnay Arbois Les Bruyères. Heavily reductive, with prominent flintstone notes alongside distant citrus fruits and a dash of jasmine, the 2022 is both nervous and serious at the same time through its firm acidity and austerity.
