The 2022 growing season in Umbria was warm and dry, and thanks to these climatic conditions, the Chardonnay grapes produced a wine with a more ripe, fruity flavor and a smooth finish. For Antinori's “Nibbio della Sala,” grown on calcareous-clay hills with fine gravel (scheletro) near Castello della Sala, this meant the wine turned out to be fuller-bodied than in cooler years, yet, thanks to the elevation, the acidity remained well-balanced. Expect this Chardonnay to offer apricots, dried mint, lemon, sea salt, hazelnuts, lemons and minerals. The 2022 vintage turned out to be relatively full-bodied for this variety, yet it retained enough freshness to be enjoyed not as an aperitif, but with a meal. “Best of Wines” magazine recommends drinking it between 2025 and 2032. Its flavor will peak over the next few years.
