Fontodi

Fontodi is an estate that extends over 130 hectares. Of those 130 hectares, almost half is planted with vines. The estate is located in the heart of the Tuscan Chianti region. The estate has been owned by the Manetti family since 1968. The Manetti family has been known in Italy for centuries, but not because of the wine. In this case, it is because of the the production of the famous terracotta tiles.

The vineyards are located southwest of the village of Panzano at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level. Due to the higher location, a fresh breeze blows through the vineyard, which ensures that the wines develop a balanced acidity. The vines are cultivated sustainably and organically. Only natural pesticides are used. The soil is characterized by the combined Galestro soil. Galestro is a type of soil that consists of a combination of marl with weathered slate and limestone. This soil is typical of the region and produces high quality Sangiovese grapes.

The vinification takes place in modern multi-storey cellars, in order to make use of gravity. The use of gravity keeps the wine elegant and retains its character. Each vineyard is harvested by hand. The grape varieties planted are Sangiovese, Syrah, Pinot Nero, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The largest production consists of Chianti Classico DOCG. All red wines are aged for a period of 12 to 24 months in oak barrels. The white wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks and matured sur lie for six months.

The Chianti Vigna del Sorbo quickly granted the winery worldwide fame. For that reason, Fontodi's wines receive high ratings from international wine journalists.
