It's not yet in bottle, but the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Domaine St Patrice Vieilles Vignes looks rich and concentrated. Cherries and apricots are fresh and zesty without being edgy. Supple, long and elegant, drink this full-bodied beauty over the next decade or so.
Released in 2021
Dense black fruit, very firm tannin with good persistence on the finish. Plenty of savoury, bitter liquorice notes. Has good potential for ageing, thanks to the pure fruit intensity and youthful, firm structure.
The 2016’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Domaine St
Patrice is also solid, with lots of black cherry, leafy
herbs, pepper and earthy aromatics. A blend of
75% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah,
it’s medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated,
balanced and classic, with a dense, chewy style
Lurid ruby. Mineral-accented red fruit liqueur
aromas are complemented by hints of candied
lavender, five-spice powder and incense. Silky,
pliant and appealingly sweet; palate-caressing
raspberry and cherry compote flavors are given lift
and focus by a core of smoky minerality. In a pure,
energetic style, showing excellent finishing thrust,
harmonious tannins and lingering stoniness
In this wine, dried plum, fig and baked black
cherries are muted by notes of black pepper, anise
and coffee grinds. It's a smoky wine with plush fruit
flavors but maintains a freshness on the midpalate
and taut, bracing tannins. Approachable now it is
likely to improve through 2030.
