There are between 70,000 and 80,000 bottles of the 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape, which actually impressed me more than the 2020. Marked by fruits that range from strawberry and cherry to stone fruit, this is full-bodied and supple, silky and pure, exhibiting impressive concentration and elegance.
Sexy and flamboyant, the 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is unmistakably Clos Saint Jean. Made in the usual inviting style, it offers expressive aromas of ripe red fruits and hints of licorice and spice box. Although the finish has a touch of heat, the velvety tannins and refreshing acidity make up for it. Medium to full-bodied, it should already drink well from a young age.
Leading off the reds, the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape reveals a vivid ruby hue as well as terrific black cherry and black raspberries, gorgeous Provençal herbs, pepper, and floral nuances. It's ripe, medium-bodied, has a beautiful sense of elegance, and fine tannins.
