located at the Isle of Mull, Tobermorey Distillery was founded in 1798. After 42 years of closure, the distillery reopened in 1972 and renamed it to Ledaig. The distillery was closed again in 1975 and reopened in 1989 under the name Tobermory. Since then, two single malts have been produced; one unpeated (Tobermory) and one peated (Ledaig). To produce the latter, the distillery obtains barley from Port Ellen maltings.
Color: Bright gold.
Nose: Tight and concentrated. Spices and Peat notes, which are accompanied with notes of lemon zest, camphor, ginger root and diesel. evolving into notes of sweet pastries, such as lemon tart.
Taste: Lively. Very mineral at first, but also notes of juicy pear and acacia.Notes of tiger balm and menthol, with medicinal and vegetable notes at the end.
Finish: Long and expressive. At first it is reminiscent of a field where wild flowers grow, after which animal notes (bacon, leather) and salty notes (seaweed) slowly emerge.
