Words of Whisky (89)

Whisky is emotion, and Old Pulteney is emotion to me. This has been such an important malt in my whisky journey, it sort of makes me sad drinking this with the knowledge it will soon disappear of shelves forever.
Nose
Creamy vanilla with freshly cut sour apples, pineapple, oranges and feint wood shavings. A small amount of candle wax, nougat and fudge as well. wonderfully balanced.
Taste
Velvety with oranges, lemon peel and a fair bit of salt. Classic. Some furniture polish, with cinnamon and pepper. Plenty of depth and the drinking strength is excellent at 46 percent.
Finish
Subtle spices, oak and vanilla. Medium to long.

BOW (97.50)

Nose
Sherry-soaked warmth that whispers of history, with layers of toffee cream, aged herbs, and delicate flowers weaving through the air. There’s an evocative touch of antique furniture polish, dark dates, and balsamic depth, followed by a subtle maritime saltiness. Sticky raisins and fresh earth mingle with soft leather. A playful hint of floral sweetness emerges—a Pulteney bloom in full fragrant glory.

Taste
A kaleidoscope of sensations: sweet, salty, creamy, sour, and savory—all in perfect harmony. Juicy oranges burst onto the palate, their zest mingling with creamy toffee, delicate herbs, and a whisper of licorice. A faint maritime tang of briny sea vegetables dances alongside floral nectar, fresh honey, and the comforting warmth of a spoonful of pollen-laden sweetness. With time, this transforms into a bouquet of honeyed blossoms, tingling with vibrant life.

Finish
A waxy caress leads into an almost ethereal smokiness, lingering with the ripe fruitiness of apricots and the robust complexity of pipe tobacco. Floral pollen notes hum quietly alongside subtle barrel spices, leaving a gentle, bittersweet trace that stays with you long after the glass is empty.

This is poetry in a glass, a testament to balance and beauty, each sip as complex and captivating as the last.
