Whiskies from Dalmore

Dalmore

An attractive and warm glowing northern Highlands whisky, characterized for its taste of dried fruits, sherry and warm spices in the nose, The Dalmore Single Malt Whisky is like sitting in a comfortable armchair next to a warming fireplace. The Dalmore 12 Years Old and the Dalmore 15 years Old are two of The Dalmore’s most renowned core-range single malt whiskies, while The Dalmore Constellation series is one of the die-hard whisky collectors long lived dream to obtain.

The Dalmore Distillery was founded in 1834 by Alexander Matheson, who leased the distillery to the Sutherland family shortly after its establishment. Around 1868, operations of the Dalmore Distillery were passed on to the brothers Charles, Andrew and William Mackenzie, who would later establish the firm “Mackenzie Brothers” and acquire full ownership of The Dalmore Distillery. From that moment on, things were running smoothly for The Dalmore. The distillery was expanded with a new stillhouse and two extra stills in order to increase the production capacity, and operations continued flawlessly. During the First World War, The Dalmore Distillery was shut down for approximately a decade as it was confiscated by the Royal Navy, who used the distillery’s warehouses as a production office for military equipment such as mines. The Dalmore was reopened as a distillery in 1922, however the navy left most of the distillery in a demolished state due to fires and explosions. Andrew Mackenzie decided to take legal actions against the navy, while continuing the production of The Dalmore Single Malt Whisky.

The years thereafter, The Dalmore entered a prosperous and peaceful time era. In 1960 Mackenzie Brothers Ltd. merged with Whyte & Mackay (a renowned wine & spirits merchant company from Glasgow) to the new formed company Whyte & Mackay Ltd., which remained the owner of The Dalmore until this very day. In 1966 the number of stills were doubled from four to eight, by which The Dalmore was notated in the top 25 of most producing distilleries at the time.

The Dalmore Distillery is still owned by Whyte & Mackay Ltd., which on its turn has been owned by the Philippines-based mother company Emperador Inc. since 2014. Dalmore is currently under the command of the legendary master distiller Richard Paterson, who has celebrated his fifty year anniversary in the whisky industry in 2014!
