Ghislaine Barthod

The domain of Ghislaine Barthod is located in Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte d'Or. The winery was founded in 1929 by Marcel Noëllat and at the time it operated under the name Barthod-Noëllat. Marcel ran the winery together with his son-in-law Gaston Barthod. When Gaston died, his daughter Ghislaine took over in 1999. She had already been with the company for several years by that time. Nowadays, her partner Louis Boillot and her son Clément can also be found in the vineyards and in the cellar. A real family business indeed!

The vineyards cover an area of 7 hectares, spread over several premier cru vineyards. Les Charmes, Les Cras and Les Beaux-Bruns, to name just a few. The Pinot Noir vines have an average age of 50 years. Combine this with a strong calcareous soil and you get very concentrated grapes.

The focus is on producing terroir-driven wines. That is why the bunches are destemmed before fermentation. When the fermentation is finished, the wines are aged for one year in French barriques, of which 30% consists of new wood. This limits the influence of the oak, and it ensures that the wines have just that little bit of extra body without excessive wood aromas. In total, 11 different premier cru wines are produced. All cuvées are refined, elegant and of very good quality. It is for good reason that Ghislaine's wines generally score high marks with renowned wine critics and wine enthusiasts. The winery's best vintages are: 2005, 2015, 2018 and 2019.
