This is a vatting of 1965, 1970 and 1972 Laddies and the very last ‘Legacy’ to be issued. There’s also the new “Redder Still” but I still have to taste it properly. Colour: gold. Nose: starts on full pineapple and melon juice, in the old Bruichladdich tradition and develops more on ripe bananas, pink grapefruits and marshmallows, with whiffs of rubbed mint leaves. Not the most complex old Bruichladdich ever but it’s very elegant whisky, no doubt. Mouth: much shyer at the attack, almost whispering. Notes of bananas, cold tea and very soft spices from the wood (hints of nutmeg and cinnamon). Extremely soft but still interesting. A charming old lady. Finish: not long but neither tannic, quite surprisingly. Clean and delicate, on pineapple syrup. In short, it’s fading away a little but it’s still a bl**dy good whisky.
