New release of The Duchess

New release of The Duchess

Foursquare 13 years old by The Duchess

We are proud to present a brand new and wonderful release in the world or rum, selected specifically for those who appreciate fine spirits. After the successes of the Guadeloupe 19 Years old, the Belize 10 Years old and the Trinidad 20 Years Old, this year The Duchess will launch another extraordinary single cask. Introducing: Barbados, the creme de la creme of rums!

About the Barbados

This beautiful 13 year old single cask rum was produced in the Foursquare distillery in Barbados, under the spirited guidance of master distiller and blender Richard Seale, who won ICS Rum Producer of the Year in 2018, and three of whose rums were lauded with “Outstanding Gold”! The Barbados is a delicious rum of very high quality and was specifically selected in coordination with Richard Blesgraaf for the Whisky & Rum aan Zee Festival 2018 in the Netherlands in October, which will serve as the stage for its release.

Once again, the artwork on the label is done by none other than painter Hans Dillesse, who gained renown for his work on Karuizawa, Hanyu, and Dornoch Castle labels. The flower adoring the label is aptly named ‘The Pride of Barbados’, which can also be said for the Foursquare distillery.

Now let’s get to tasting this baby:

Nose:

This is one big tropical fruit bomb! It has papaya, pineapple, and some sultanas. It does have some creamy notes like those old-fashioned Werther's Original caramels (I’m one of those people who can finish a whole bag in one go). Apart from the tropical flavors it has some nice wood spices like sandalwood in the background.

Taste:

Fruity flavours such as apricots and peaches… more tropical, maybe papaya or any of the other indigenous fruits Barbados has to offer. A very sweet touch. Anyways, it has that Werther’s Original candy again mixed with warm lingering wood spices. What’s not to love?

Finish:

Nice and long finish. The finish is more “green”, maybe some bamboo shoots. If you never tried, you should! It has some more chili peppers on the tongue.

Balance and complexity:

Fairly well balanced in both nose and taste of this delightful dram.

Comments: Rums like these make me very happy. I can enjoy this any time of the day. The quality is just so outstanding. Well done.
