In 2024, the growing season in the Wachau was marked by unstable weather, which posed a challenge for winemakers; as a result, the selection of vineyard sites and the determination of harvest dates became even more critical than usual. On the southern slope of Kellerberg, with its stony soil interspersed with granite, Emmerich Knoll harvested fully ripened Riesling grapes for “Smaragd” wines. The result is the “Ried Kellerberg Riesling Smaragd” from the 2024 vintage. This wine combines the richness and powerful minerality for which this vineyard is renowned with the full-bodied character typical of “Smaragd” wines. The wine has aging potential.
