A wonderfully ripe and elegant dry pinot blanc with sensuous aromas of sliced pears, fine green beans and snow peas. Great creamy mouthfeel but still cool and silky, with surprising lightness of touch on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Long, supple finish that’s deftly underlined by fine tannins. Drink or hold.
The 2023 Weissburgunder Smaragd was harvested in the Axpoint, Setzberg and Steinporz sites from vines that are now more than 40 years old. It was fermented in stainless steel and matured in large, neutral oak. White currant and Mirabelle peel notes on the nose have the slightest overtone of citrus. The palate is rounded, generous and ripe, yet edged with freshness and a guiding, corseting contour of brightness. This creates a beautiful and exciting contrast, and the freshness gains the upper hand, helped by the pear and citrus peels in equal measure. Subtle yeastiness at the core unites it all. The 2023 is a big but elegant wine with contour and exquisite length. (Bone-dry)
