Peppery and dusty in character, the 2022 Impulsivo wafts up with a brooding mix of crushed black raspberry, dried roses, and graphite. Deceptively approachable at first, it envelops the palate with depths of red and black fruit offset by hints of sour citrus as a collection of edgy tannins mounts toward the close. Its structure defines the finish, incredibly long and staining, with steely mineral tones and primary concentration that add chewy persistence.
The 2022 Impulsivo makes one think of Ribera Del Duero in its intensity and richness of balsamic black berry and passionfruit. More new oak is applied (40% new French) for 18 months, which accentuates the inherent tension of the wine’s texture and length. The drinking window is long, now through 2042.
The 2022 ‘Impulsivo’ comes from the En Chamberlin Vineyard that was planted back in 2000. On the nose this takes on layers of soy sauce and Umami with wet stone, short-rib and black cherry compote that all take shape in the glass. The palate is silky and refined, with marvelous stony character and loads of freshness. Full-bodied and very nervy, enjoy now and over the next ten plus years.
