The 2022 Pinot Noir Luminous Hills Vineyard has intense, savory aromas of briar fruit, charcuterie, autumn leaves, rose petals and bitters. The medium-bodied palate features concentrated, expansive flavors that range from berry jam to mushrooms and citrus. It’s structured by finely chalky tannins and juicy acidity and has a long, nuanced finish.
Stellar at such a young age, this wine is half Pommard and half 667; while winemaker Andrew Riechers often uses 30% new oak, he went higher in the 2022 vintage to 45% to bridge the stem tannin. He believes the 2022s will be an outlier for his wines; the long vintage created more extraction, and thus, he used more new oak and 75% whole cluster. Warm spices and exotic notes come from the whole cluster. Gorgeous rose petals and warming exotic spices, with notes of forest floor and fresh mint. Flavours mint and pine sap with salty notes of pomegranate and exotic fruits alongside a smoky blood orange peel.
