The 2022 Pinot Noir is blended from the different single vineyards Audeant works with, including Luminous Hills, Nysa, Cherry Grove and Cortell Rose. Fermented with around 60% whole clusters, the nose is bursting with brambly berry fruit and nuances of woodsmoke, charcuterie, orange peel, Angostura bitters and woodsy undertones. The light-bodied palate offers gobs of spicy berry fruit. It’s structured by chalky tannins and vibrant acidity and has a long, nuanced finish.
Beautifully red fruited, the Willamette Valley bottling is 40% Luminous Hills, 15% Nysa, and Cherry Grove and Cortell Rose. When deciding what to do with this fruit, it seems like extraction needs to be measured in 2022. I went with 75-80% whole cluster in the 2022s; it shows a youthful tannin—wild red berries and herbs on the nose with ample rose petal florals. The palate has plenty of grip that helps frame the sweet strawberries and dance with alpine meadow herbs and dried lavenders. Take this wine to its finish on seaspray saline rails with a kiss of fresh mint. Winemaker Andrew Reichers starts the vintage wines with this blend; Riechers loves the fermentations he gets from the high whole cluster; ‘it spreads the wines without thinning them, and can mellow out extraction.
