The 2021 Pinot Noir Botanica is spicy with an intense burst of peppery wild berries, sage and rosemary complicated by crushed stone and incense hints. A total pleasure on the palate, it’s soothing and round with juicy acidity and vibrant red berry fruits. Cooling minerals and rosy inner florals amass toward the close. Tart raspberry and licorice tones linger incredibly long as the Botanica tapers off long, staining with a coating of fine tannins gently tugging at the palate.
As the name and the label suggest, the 2021 Pinot Noir Botanica is an outstanding expression of wild herbs, a fantastic kaleidoscope of wildflowers, and wet stones. A jeweled ruby/magenta color, it’s medium-bodied and has broader shoulders, with more umami undertones, ripe tannins, oceanic sea spray, and a long finish.
The 2021 Pinot Noir Botanica has very pure, complex aromas: pomegranate and cranberry are accented by saline, wild fennel, oolong tea leaves and spice. The medium-bodied palate explodes with layer after layer of spicy, deep red fruit. It has a very fine, powdery texture, mouthwatering acidity that lends a shimmery vibrance, and a very long, spicy finish. It will be long lived in the cellar.
This pinot is firm, structured, intense and pure, sure to age and improve for many years. The super-focused cranberries, red cherries and red currants on a medium body are so intense and densely layered. The wine feels wrapped up tight, just beginning to show its concentration and complexity.
