Exotic from the first tilt of the glass, the 2021 Pinot Noir Antikythera tempts the imagination with a kaleidoscopic bouquet as flowery undergrowth and wet stone evolve into a collage of rosemary and sage, giving way to blue and red florals and crushed blackberries. Seamlessly silky in form yet nearly weightless in feel, this hovers across the palate with waves of ripe wild berry fruit intertwined with saline minerals and hints of spice. A liquid violet concentration lingers along with a pleasantly bitter tinge as the 2021 finishes gently tannic and with amazing length, leaving notes of sour cherry that pucker the cheeks.
The 2021 Pinot Noir Antikythera displays a reflective bright magenta/ruby color, initially revealing darker notes of violets, wet stones, and black raspberries. As it opens, it reveals more vibrant, red-fruited notes that frame the wine, along with fresh herbs, and spice. Medium-bodied, it has a refined and detailed structure with wonderful tension, compact, yet weightless density, a stony texture, and a fantastically long finish. It is superbly balanced and nuanced, and I anticipate it will only improve and reveal its complexity as it ages. It is a phenomenal wine from the team at Antica Terra.
