Frescobaldi

For centuries, Frescobaldi has been an established name in Tuscany. The family was first known as a wealthy banking family with a large cultural and political network. The Frescobaldis have been producing wine in the Tuscan region for seven hundred years. This started on the historic Tenuta di Castiglioni estate. This was the family's first winery. The Tenuta estate is located in Val di Pesa, which is southwest of Florence. Tenuta di Castiglioni was built in the year 1300 and has been owned by the Frescobaldi family ever since. The winery supplied to the Papal court in Rome and to the Royal court of England, among others.

In 1855, the family planted the Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Nero, Chardonnay and Merlot grape varieties, which was still unusual at that time in Italy. This later turned out to be a real success! Frescobaldi owns eight wineries throughout the region. The vineyard area amounts to a total of 1,200 hectares. The Frescobaldis can also be found on the prison island of Gorgona. Here, they teach the prisoners the wine profession.

The vineyards of Castello di Pomino are the highest of all Frescobaldi-owned wineries with an altitude of 750 meters. Castel Giocondo produces absolute top Brunello wines and Castello di Nipozzano is known for its Montesodi cuvée. This shows that each winery has its unique characteristics. Each and every one of the wines is characterized by constant quality.

All estates and vineyards are sustainably maintained. In addition, the bottles that are used are new, and more environmentally friendly. These bottles need less glass, reduce energy and water consumption during their production and, due to their lighter weight, emit less CO2 during transport. With an annual production of 19 million bottles, the expected CO2 reduction is 350 tons per year.

Tiziana, Lamberto and Diana Frescobaldi are the 30th generation to head all these wineries. Since 1990, Nicolò d'Afflito has been responsible for vinification. Together, they provide wines that are among the best in the world.
