Robert Parker (95)

The Walporzheimer 2019 Kräuterberg Spätburgunder GG is another highlight from the flooded Ahr Valley and for the fabulous Näkel sisters. The bouquet shows a refreshing slate and floral/herbal tone intertwined with beautifully ripe, refined and elegant dark berry and cherry aromas. Coming from an exceptional terroir, this is another exceptional Pinot, and it will end up as one of the icon wines of the region in that vintage. The palate is silky as well as juicy, very elegant, fresh and full of depth, seriousness and energy. The tannins are fine and refreshing and perfectly intertwined with the crystalline acidity that gives drive, tension and a salivating finish. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2021.

James Suckling (95)

A very complex Ahr pinot noir with tons of herbal aromas (the vineyard name means herb mountain), married to delicate red fruit and flowers, plus just a whiff of smoke. Concentrated and very silky, this really stands out in the category. Very long and refined finish that’s so sensual. Drink or hold.

Jancis Robinson (18)

While on the nose ripe cherries leave the greatest sensory impression, on the palate the Kräuterberg does total justice to its name (Kräuterberg = herb mountain) with a plethora of dried herbes de Provence. Ageing in barriques is reflected by spicy and roasted nuances but there is plenty of fruit too and, as the taste of marinated cherries and plums expands on the palate, we are in for a juicy expression of opulence on the finish.

Message from Weingut Meyer-Näkel regarding these bottles.

Wines from the flood

The bottles in this box fell victim to the flooding of the Ahr on 14-15 July 2021.

All the buildings of our winery were severely damaged by the flood and buried under masses of mud. Through painstaking work, we were able to salvage and clean some of our wines.
The bottles with cork closures were recapped for quality reasons. This was not possible for the bottles with screw caps, which is why sand may have settled on the thread in some cases, although this has no effect on the enjoyment or quality of the wine. Externally, the bottles are heavily marked by misfortune and some of the labels are difficult to read.

We have very carefully packed only intact bottles. Nevertheless, please bear with us if one or two bottles are damaged and subsequently show quality defects.

Best regards

Meike and Dörte Näkel
