Helene Beaugrand

Helene Beaugrand can be found in the hillsides of the town Montgueux in Cote de Bar. This is an a-typical appellation, because it was only recognised and included as a Champagne in 1927. The vines are planted on calcareous soils with veins of Silex. This unique terroir results in beautifully aromatic and complex Chardonnays, which has been proven to offer extraordinary conditions for the growth of Champagne.

Though this is a relatively new Domaine, winemaker and founder Hélène comes from a long tradition of winemaking. Her great-grandfather Gustave, and her grandfather Léon started working the vines in the early 20th century, and in 1919 the first Harvest was made. Nearly 100 years later, in 2018 Hélène inherited 3 hectares of the Domaine Beaugrand, and decided to produce her own Champagne under the name Hélène Beaugrand.

The vineyards are planted mostly with Chardonnay, with some smaller plots of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. She currently produces 6 different champagnes using only vines of at least 45 years of age. Her annual production is around 25.000 bottles.

Besides her standard range of different Cuvées, Hélène Beaugrand also released a limited edition 100% Pinot Meunier from Montgueux. This rare champagne is a wonderful expression of the terroir and a great proof that Hélène Beaugrand is a true ‘grower champagne’.
