Laurent Barth

The Laurent Barth winery is located less than 10 kilometres north of Colmar. Laurent's parents always grew grapes and sold them to the local cooperative. In 1999, when Laurent came back from wine school in Beaune and several international internships, he took responsibility for the family’s vineyards. After all contracts with the cooperatives had been ended, the focus shifted to the production of their own wine. Their first wine came on the market in 2004. Currently, 25,000 bottles are produced per year.

The total area of the winery is quite fragmented. Its 4.5 hectares are spread over 27 different plots. Laurent also owns two grand cru vineyards: Schlossberg and Marckrain. All these plots are cultivated according to organic and/or biodynamic regulations. The older vineyards have a planting density of 5,500 to 6,500 vines per hectare. The vines planted after the year 2000 have a higher density, namely 8,500 to 10,500 vines per hectare. The yields are kept low, which benefits the quality. Riesling, pinot gris, gewürztraminer, pinot noir and muscat are the grape varieties that you can find in these vineyards.

The approach in the cellar is based on natural methods. The fermentation is started by natural and native yeasts. The wines are unfiltered or barely filtered. Laurent's wines are classic and elegant. They can also be stored well because the wines have a long storage potential! The best vintages of Laurent Barth are: 2007 and 2010.
