They aim for the traditional Altamira expression in the 2017 Finca Canal Uco, and it's textured and with tension, selected from five different soils from the property that is separated by the watering channel (canal) for the south of the Altamira, the traditional part of Altamira from the Piedra Infinita property. This is aromatic, gentle and round, without the complexity or depth of the 2018 that had a longer cycle and achieved full ripeness. They don't want concentration or fat here but juiciness, and they ferment the full clusters. They harvested quite early, and the wine finished with 14% alcohol. 4,800 bottles were filled in August 2018.
Love the blackberry aromas with dried violets and other flowers. Full body. Powerful tannins, but extremely creamy and polished. The fine tannins caress your palate. Lasts for minutes. Needs three or four years to soften, but already a joy to taste.
Deep crimson with black core. Aroma of wild elderberries and just a hint of peony and a charry dark/rocky note. Almost too intense to taste, like essence of Malbec. Finely textured, dry but still embryonic, and needs more time in the bottle. (JH)
