Deutz

Maison Deutz was founded in 1838 by William Deutz and Pierre-Huber Geldermann. You can find the winery in the village of Aÿ, northwest of the city of Épernay. The duo has French roots as well as a German background. That is why Germany became one of their most important sales markets and Deutz subsequently managed to become an important player in no time. Since 1993, the champagne house has been owned by Louis Roederer from Reims.

Maison Deutz owns 45 hectares and also works together closely with several winegrowers. These growers are carefully selected and only the best quality grapes are used. 80% of the fruit comes from classified Grand Cru or Premier Cru vineyards. The plots are spread over the municipalities of Aÿ, Côte des Blancs, Mareuil, Bisseuil and Villers-Marmery. The main grape varieties are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.

All plots are fermented separately, in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, all base wines undergo malolactic fermentation to give the wines extra body, because Deutz does not use wooden barrels. The final blend varies from year to year and is assembled based on the characteristics of that particular vintage and the reserve wines. Once the champagnes are bottled, they stay in the cellar for a minimum of 30 months of bottle aging. Because, as Deutz says: “time and patience to reach perfection”. In total, 9 different champagnes are produced. The winery's prestigious cuvées are William Deutz and Amour de Deutz. The latter is available in two styles: as a rosé or as a blanc de blancs made from 100% Chardonnay. Each and every one of these are special Champagnes, each with their own character.
