Mezcal Nucano a 100% artisanal mezcal from the San Dionisio Ocotepec region of the state of Oaxaca.

The term “mezcal” originates from Mexcalli Náhuatl (“metl” maguey, “ixcalli” cooked) and means cooked maguey.

Mezcal Nucano provides the customer with an AUTHENTIC ARTISANAL MEZCAL, product of working the land in its purest and most TRADITIONAL form and available thanks to the efforts of MEN OF THE FIELD.

This UNIQUE, high QUALITY mezcal contains CULTURE and TRADITION in each bottle, aiming to connect each of its customers with the origin of this ancestral drinking, and putting a little piece of Oaxaca in their hands.
Nucano (Great Fire) was an important character in the history of Oaxaca, a brave Mixtec warrior who fell in love with the Zapotec Princess Donají, and who, in the name of that love, sought to bring peace to the two nations.

Nucano governed the Zapotecs, and did so with nobility and respect, as his beloved Donají would have done. According to the legend, their bodies lie under a flagstone in the Cuilapam de Guerrero church in Oaxaca.

Mezcal Nucano, proudly Oaxacan!

This mezcal has a medium density, a pronounced clearness and a pleasing bright ochre color, sometimes with reddish hues with round hints.

It possesses an extraordinary aromatic quality, within which we find the fruity primary aromas of cherry, fig and cranberry. In its secondary aromas cashew, vanilla and caramel may be detected, finishing with potent tertiary aromas where coffee and chocolate predominate.

A rich, full-bodied and velvety mezcal with a light freshness – succulent to the palate. The best mezcal for refined palates.

Serge Valentin (80)

This one was aged for five years, which is already a lot by Central American standards. Colour: full gold.

Nose: it’s a rather soft mezcal, with a feeling of milk chocolate flavoured with lavender or violets, which gives it a rather tequila-y side. A little fudge as well, butterscotch, cappuccino… It’s got even less raw mezcalness than the Los Cuerudos, but on the other hand, everything’s in place and well-balanced.

Mouth: good arrival, agave-y and mildly rooty, with some brine and more violets (or Parfait Amour liqueur), then rather Jaffa cakes and orangettes. Perhaps one small olive in a far distance.

Finish: medium, rather on salted chocolate, which works extremely well as soon as some kind of balance has been achieved. Smoky herbs on the aftertaste, and more black tea.

Comments: not totally my cup of agave eau-de-vie but I think we’re flying rather high already. Hey, that’s a figure of speech!
