The tobacco, cedar, black currant, and spice-scented 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Vineyard is a medium to full-bodied, nicely-textured effort. Although it reveals surprising evolution, the wine is rich and complex.

Rich and loamy, with lively currant, sage, underbrush and herb. Traces of mineral and spice, with a touch of funkiness, but in an pleasant way. Firms up and turns dry on the finish. Best of two bottles. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
