Abreu

David Abreu grew up working amongst vineyards and went on to earn a degree in Viticulture and Enology. He made his first wine in 1986 with a few barrels of Cabernet from Madrona Ranch. However as he knew that a first release can make or break you het didn't release the 1986. That vintage wasn't a good one in Napa. So that is why the first release he sold is the 1987. He left some bottles at local restaurants asked the owners to call him if they liked the wine.

That was the start: David was a keen observer who had the privilege of learning from some of the industry's finest winemakers. Like him, they believed that great wine comes from excellent vineyards, soils, and fruit. Despite receiving plentiful winemaking advice, David listened to it all but ultimately paved his own way. He produced wine the way he believed was best.

Some individuals doubted his unconventional methods and questioned why he took so much time for each step. However, David applies the same intuitive approach in the vineyards. He trusts his gut and does what he deems right. This approach has persisted for thirty years now.

Abreu's contribution to the Napa Valley wine industry has been significant. He has been instrumental in raising the quality of wines to a new level since the 1990s. Abreu is highly discerning when it comes to selecting vineyard sites to work with, and his impressive Napa Valley resume includes collaborations with renowned vineyards such as Harlan, Colgin and Screaming Eagle.

The fruit for Abreu wines is sourced from four of the best vineyard: Madrona, Cappella, Ecotone Vineyard (just below Howell Mountain) and Las Posadas Howell Mountain.

The wines from Abreu are considered to be one of the best. Ratings are without exception very high and maximum scores (f.e. Parker 100 points) are no exception.
