All this is noticeable in the wines I tasted, starting with the 2010 Remelluri Rioja Blanco, which is one great vintage for what is without a doubt the most original white in Rioja. This is the first vintage produced after Telmo?s comeback. He started the project with the aim of showing the Remelluri character. He didn?t want the wine to talk about varieties, but to talk about the place, so he used a wide blend of grape varieties trying to minimize the varietal character. The biggest change in 2010 is that, on top of using multiple grape varieties, they also did six different fermentations (glass, concrete, oak, inox) trying to remove the importance of how the wine is produced and erase the imprint from the production to show a true Remelluri Blanco. The nose is very complex, with notes of dry flowers and chamomile subtly framed by the oak aromas of smoke, white pepper and other spices. It shows a very balsamic profile, and it develops a pungent note of camphor with time in the glass. The palate is very fresh with clean acidity, pure flavors, focused and delineated. A superb white Rioja showing a strong personality.
