Wines from Tua Rita

Tua Rita

In 1984, Rita and Virgilio's long-cherished wish came true when they bought an estate in Suvereto. Two hectares of vineyards belong to the estate, but this area soon expanded to a total of thirty hectares. Eventually, their daughter and son-in-law also joined the company. They managed to achieve a great increase in the brand awareness of the winery.

The vineyards are scattered around the town of Suvereto. Suvereto is located in the Tuscan municipality of Livorno. The orchards are gently sloping with an alluvial soil consisting of clay, silt, sand and rocks. The combination of these soil types provides a whole range of mineral nutrients.

The Italian wine-growing traditions are the hallmark of the cellar. There are as few interventions as possible and everything is done as naturally as possible. Of course, Sangiovese is often used, but Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah also play an important role. Tua Rita also produces a small selection of white wines. The white wines are made from Vermentino, Chardonnay, Riesling or the indigenous grape variety Ansonica.

After the manual harvest, the grapes are carefully selected on special sorting tables. Then, the grapes are softly pressed, and transferred to wooden or cement vats for fermentation. The fermentation takes an average of 25 to 30 days. When the fermentation has stopped, the wines are transferred by gravity to smaller wooden barrels for any possible wood aging. The red wines are aged in barrels for a minimum of 18 months.

The wines are all characterized by structure, complexity and an everlasting aftertaste. Because some of Tua Rita's wines are so exclusive, special seals have been used on the label from 2017. This seal guarantees the authenticity of the bottle. A code can be found on this seal, which the consumer can use to search for their bottle in the related database. The Redigaffi is the first wine to receive such a unique seal on the label.

Tua Rita's best vintages are: 1997, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2015 en 2016.
