Wines from Tenuta Fanti

Tenuta Fanti

Tenuta Fanti (Formerly known as: Fanti Tenuta San Filippo) has been owned by the Fanti family since the early 19th century. The estate includes 300 Ha but only 50 Ha are planted with vines.

The grapevines are very diverse: Not only Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, but also Trebbiano, Malvasia, Vermentino and Viognier. Tenuta Fanti produces a first-class Brunello di Montalcino Riserva from “Le Macchiarelle”, the oldest vineyard of the estate, which currently measures only 2.5 Ha and was planted in 1980 with 100% Sangiovese. Aged for a minimum of 24 months plus an additional 6+ months in the bottle before release. The plot for the Le Macchiarelle sometimes changes, however it is always the oldest plot in use.

The “regular” Brunello di Montalcino comes from different plots within the Montalcino region with a total of 10 Ha and is also aged for at least 24 months in oak barriques and casks. The wine has an extra 4+ months of aging in the bottle before it is put on the market.

There is also the Brunello di Montalcino “Vallochio”, a new selection made from Sangiovese grapes in the “Vallochio”area (30 months aged in oak, 12 months in bottle)

A fresher style of wine with more fruitiness and with less aging time needed in cask and in the bottle, is the “Rosso di Montalcino”.

The “Vin Santo Sant’Antimo” comes from only 1 Ha of Trebbiano and Malvasia Toscana vines with an average of 30 years old. The bunches of grapes are hanged to dry in the air for 4 – 6 months. The must is, because of this process, becoming very concentrated with a higher total sugar content. The result is a lovely, sweet wine with aromas of apricot, nuts, raisin and honey.

Tenuta Fanti also produces top quality “extra vergine” olive oil.
